Judicial Pay

Linked from the NY Sun is some coverage of Judge Kaye's recent lawsuit regarding judicial pay.

The Jamestown Lawyer has no strong feelings one way or the other on the lawsuit or the underlying question. One issue that does stay with me is the way the current and/or requested salaries are frequently highlighted. Six-figure salaries are something that many of us only dream of, even in the legal profession. That doesn't change the fact that, for many senior lawyers with the skills to be capable judges, the current judicial salary is a pay cut. Nor does it change the fact that new lawyers in some cities earn more than judges. There's a layer of perspective that's missing from hyped-up headlines about earnings. The Jamestown Lawyer has no views on what judges should earn, but wishes the issue were publicized with all the facts.
